The Barnsdall Arts Center strives to have a safe and respectful environment for all.


Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Students must be 18 years or older to enroll in a Barnsdall Arts Center class. Senior age is 62 years and older.
Material lists will be provided upon registration and students are responsible for purchasing tools and art supplies before the start of class.
Please communicate absences with the front office. If you must drop a class, please give at least 48 hour notice prior to the first day of class.

Due to the technical processes of certain classes, missing multiple classes will impact your learning experience. The Teaching Artist is not obligated to catch students up for missed class. Absenteeism may result in being dropped from the class.
Notices (class cancellations, schedule changes, etc.) are sent via email. Emergency notifications are done by phone.
If you are feeling unwell or have flu-like symptoms, please stay home for everyone’s wellness and contact us through phone or email to report your absence.

We strongly recommend and encourage students to wear a mask if they are not feeling well.

Common Registration Questions

Students are allowed to register for as many classes as they can with one exception:
Jewelry classes, ceramics classes, and intensives are limited to one (1) per person.

Only one (1) class registration ticket per person at a time. Students looking to register for more classes must re-enter the line after they register for their first class.
All classes are first come, first served.
Class and Lab fees will be collected during the registration period.

Per Department of Cultural Affairs policy, Class fees can only be paid via Cash or Check. No Debit/Credit Cards. Checks require a government-issued ID and must be made out to “City of LA, DCA”

Lab fees will be processed via Eventbrite and include a service fee. Please ensure you have your phone/device ready for use.
Lab fees will be collected during the registration process and are non-refundable.

Refund request forms must be submitted with all required documentation 48 hours before the first day of class. Only class credit will be available after the first day of class.

Refunds will be mailed by the Department of Cultural Affairs as a check. Refunds may take between 4 to 8 weeks to process.Refunds for class fees paid by check can only be processed if a copy of the check and receipt is provided.

Class credit and transfer request forms must be submitted with all required documentation before the second day of class.

Class credits are good for one (1) year from the date issued.
The person whose name is registered is the only one who may attend the class. Please ensure you contact the office if your name does not match the our rosters on the first day of class.
Waitlists will start once the class becomes full. As spots become available, waitlisted students will receive an email through Eventbrite informing them they have 24 hours to register.
All classes are at risk of cancellation after the first class meeting if at least 50% of the class slots are not filled. In case of a cancellation due to low enrollment, students will be notified immediately by email. The lab fees will be refunded. 

Common Campus & Studio Questions

Barnsdall Art Park (BAP) is open daily from 6 am until 10 pm.
The Arts Center has an elevator located in the parking lot between the Handicap parking and the Kiln Shed. The elevator is accessible during regular and extended office hours.
Free parking is available on-site at Barnsdall Art Park on a “first come, first served” basis. Please be aware that the parking lot can get very busy during peak times, particularly on the weekends. Please allow extra time to find parking before class.
Only enrolled students are allowed in the studios.
Food is not allowed in the studios. Water bottles and sealed beverages are allowed. Alcoholic beverages and smoking/vaping are not permitted in BAC facilities.
Restrooms are available for student use only. Please ask your instructor for the restroom code. DO NOT share this code with anyone or open restroom doors for members of the public.
Use of Barnsdall Arts Center studios, equipment, materials, and supplies for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited. All projects and activities in the studios may be subject to the approval of the Teaching Artist and/ or Art Education Coordinator.

For the safety of all students and out of respect for the Teaching Artist, repeatedly misusing Center equipment/tools, not following Teaching Artist directions and/or Studio policies may result in being removed from the class and enrollment blocked in future sessions.
Any artwork and tools left at the end of each session will be considered abandoned and will be handled at the discretion of the Arts Center. The Arts Centers are not responsible for lost/stolen/damaged artwork or personal belongings.
